Marcelo Garcia v. Ricco Rodriguez
ADCC 2005
This is a very cool match between a big guy and a small guy. I know Marcelo Garcia is extremely technically skilled and he finishes the match beautifully, but all that butt-scooting really turns me off. It just doesn’t look like fighting to me.

That instinct to turn the head and lift up - priceless. I can always tell when people have a wrestling background and when they don’t. If they don’t, I can usually put them on their back (of course, BJJ players don’t mind being on their back - so the game continues…).
Daniel Camarillo Highlight by Roy Dean
BJJ vs. Judo! Royce Gracie vs. Yoshida Hidehiko. Yoshida was a gold medalist at the 1992 Olympics. Royce you’ve probably heard of.
As you can see the match ends with some controversy. Royce claims he never tapped. It’s impossible to tell from the video, but Yoshida does have him in full mount with what looks like a good sode guruma jime.
On another note, how awesome is the crowd? They are literally going NUTS every time Yoshida has an opportunity. The Japanese crowd really knows their stuff.
Read it, believe it, live it. Almost everyone is a goober when they start, unless you’re an athletic freak, and those come along very rarely.

WMMA From the Archives. Ronda Rousey vs Charmaine “Not So Sweet” Tweet with Commentary.
After watching Ronda’s early fights, I get the impression it’s much easier to hit a juji-gatame in an MMA fight than it is in a jiujitsu competition, and harder still to hit one in a judo shiai. In a jiujitsu competition of course there are no strikes and everyone knows to defend the armbar. In judo it’s the same but with much much less time to work and get position. You almost literally have to jump into your submission or the ref will stand you up.
Roger Gracie breaks Jacare’s arm but Jacare wins the match.
How I feel when I’m losing…
I’m not gonna lie. For me sweeps are easy. I’m no expert, but I think it’s because I rely on timing and proper technique.BJJ closed and open guard sweeps.
They make it look easy. It’s not. But check out that “Star Sweep.” How awesome is that?
I AM SO GOING TO TRY THAT STAR SWEEP NEXT TIME I AM IN CLASS!
